MUSTANG HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE KIT INSTALL
There is a company in Utah (Showcase Hotrods and Customs) that will install the system for about $6,000. The system costs about $5,000 for a fiberglass version ($1,000 more for carbon fiber). The little flip allows us to add a couple of inches in height to fit that roof system into the rather small trunk space, but the added height is not detectable from behind the car. We ended up with a rear spoiler that looks like the 67/68 Shelby spoiler. I worked with Shelby to develop a different look that was more consistent with Shelby Mustangs. Ben made a few kits later, but he used a style that took its cues from the Continental. Auto Obsession offers power window kits from Nu-Relics Power Windows.
Ford rejected the original prototype back in the mid-60s. Power Window Kit, Front & Rear, 1969-70 Ford Mustang Coupe/Hardtop & Convertible only. The system was originally developed by Ben Smith for Ford. We do not need to extend the trunk, but we cheat forward to just aft of the rear seat to create a trunk lid that is large enough for the new top. The top is a two-pieced fiberglass (or carbon fiber for an additional fee) system that folds into the trunk area. We add a torque box in the front, and additional rocker panel reinforcement on the inside of the car. Anybody have any sources or reasons why there arent. We connect the front frame to the rear frame along the pinch lines of the rocker panel. Ive done some research but I cant seem to find anybody who makes hardtops for mustang convertibles. I know that structure was important to you - it is to me too. Our kit includes a frame strengthening system that allows the removal of the roof (it's a unibody system, so it needs to be strengthened to maintain structural integrety). My company produces a kit for the 1964 1/2 through 1968 Mustang coupes to convert them into retractable Mustangs, so I'm in the process of modifying my 68 into a retractable. I've got one myself that I use as my daily driver.
